ACMaps Automation Project
Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (1994)

Required the conversion of paper based mining claim maps to digital format. The claim maps had to be registered to the Ministry of Natural Resources 1:20 000 scale Ontario Base Map (OBM) digital and hardcopy format series. In registering the claim maps, BLAZE discovered, and resolved, significant discrepancies between the geographic extent of the claims maps, the OBM digital and the OBM hardcopy maps.

Requirements included designing the capture, manipulation and delivery mechanisms for the project. This task was complicated by the previously unknown import limitations of the Ministry's chosen GIS software, GenaMap. BLAZE researched the problem and designed a work around solution. The project incorporated scanning, digitizing and graphic and tabular attribute manipulation strategies. Specially designed capture and manipulation techniques were developed in Intergraph Microstation for the capture and manipulation of the claims data. dBase IV was used to populate and manipulate the mining claim attribute data.
