Digital Mapping Profile of the Northern Ontario Resource -
Based Tourist Establishment Industry

This project required BLAZE I.T. to construct a comprehensive series of GIS ready digital maps of Northern Ontario's resource based tourist industry. The maps were required to be digitally linked to an existing non-spatial RDBMS. The project was divided into two phases. Phase 1 involved all aspects of inventory mapping including interviews, data analysis and capture. Phase 2 produced a series of thematic wall maps for presentation at public consultation meetings.

Upon completion of the digital tourism map base, BLAZE and Ministry staff conducted a series of conflict analysis studies to ascertain the competition and conflict for Northern Ontario's natural resources. These results were used as data input into the comprehensive management plans for forestry, mining and recreation activities.
